Activities

A student pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or an entrepreneur who wants to have hands-on training in the field of ornamental fisheries could join us as an Intern. The period of internship may be decided as per the requirement of the applicant. An intern will be attached with some on-going activity viz; ornamental fish production, farm operation and management, aquarium retail outlet, aquarium fabrication and installation etc. An intern could join us as a regular employee after successful completion of the internship.
Internship fee: The internship fee will be Rs. 500/- per day but a minimum of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) only. An intern will be provided with free accommodation. The cost of food will be extra.

Institute is equipped with adequate facilities to undertake both field and laboratory-based research projects. Few important fields of our research interest are:

1. The market survey of the aquarium industry.
2. Culture of live feeds.
3. Maturation enhancement in selected ornamental fishes.
4. Breeding of native ornamental fish.
5. Colour enhancement in ornamental fishes.

Any PG students want to work on a research project as part of their dissertation/thesis requirement may pre-register and contact for further details.

Ornamental fisheries offer immense potential for entrepreneurship development. OFTRI could support a startup by providing following services:

• Identification of business activity.
• Preparation of DPR for baking finance and government schemes.
• Setting up an ornamental fish production farm, aquarium shop etc.
• Liaisons with suppliers and buyers.
