The Ornamental Fisheries Training and Research Institute is awarded the status of Project Monitoring Unit by National Fisheries Development Board (Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India). The OFTRI is assigned with the responsibility of monitoring the ornamental fisheries development schemes being implemented in the country with the funding support of NFDB. A “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed at NFDB, Hyderabad on 15th February, 2019 by Smt. I. Rani Kumudini, Chief Executive, NFDB and Dr. Atul Kumar Jain, Chairman, OFTRI. The new responsibility will offer ample opportunity for OFTRI to achieve its mission to promote the hobby of ornamental fish keeping as well as entrepreneurship development in the country. The NFDB scheme “Pilot project on ornamental fisheries development” presently includes the states of Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamilnadu and West Bengal which could be later extended to other states of the country.
